Paperless society
- Academic libraries in the U.S. are doubling every 16 years. A paperless library based on the microcard was proposed by Freemont Rider, Librarian, Weslyan University, 1944
- “ as print on paper publications give way and are completely replaced by electronic publications” all libraries other than “archival repositories of the printed records… are likely to disappear,”(1982a, p.150). Without books, libraries will become “crumbling institutions” with little or no “future.: “We are moving rather rapidly and inevitably toward the paperless society.” F. W. Lancaster, 1978, p356).
