This year's Annual Meeting will be held March 30-April 1, 1998 in the San Francisco Room, West Tower on the Ballroom Level of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 151 E. Wacker Drive, Chicago IL. The Conference schedule, different then in past years, will have two full days of Conference Program followed by APLIC-I Board and Business meetings on Wednesday, April 1.

The Conference theme is: "The Promised Land: Views of an Evolving Immigrant Population". A pre-registration packet will be mailed to the membership by February 6 and it will contain the preliminary program schedule, a PAA hotel registration form, the Banquet menu, and an APLIC-I conference pre-registration form. Hotel reservations can also be made by calling 800/233-1234 or 312/565-1234. PAA conference rates apply for the APLIC-I dates, but be sure that you book early in case the allotted rooms at the "conference rate" run out. A single room at the Hyatt is $106, a double is $122 plus 14% tax. A AAA guide, valid through March 1998, shows an interesting option that is not far from the Hyatt. This is: Lenox Suites, which offers full kitchens, a fitness center and morning newspapers at a rate $104-$184 per night. If you are a AAA member, ask for the "AAA Rate" 1-800-44-LENOX. APLIC-I member, Patty Cloud, at NORC, describes this location as "a pleasant walk" to the Conference Hotel.

The Conference pre-registration fee will be $100 for APLIC-I members and $125 for non-members. Single day pre-registration will cost $50 per day. Members registering on-site will pay $110 and non-members $135. The banquet fee will be an additional $35. The Tuesday CHS luncheon fee will be an additional $11.50.

On Tuesday March 31st, APLIC-I will offer its Conference attendees a guided tour of the Chicago Historical Society (Clark Street at North Avenue) exhibition "Rooting, Uprooting: The West Side at 2:00pm. We will also be given a "behind the scenes" look at the Researcher's Gallery, CHS's information center. After the guided tour, attendees are free to visit other areas of the museum. As an added option, there will be a buffet luncheon at 1:00pm in the Big Shoulders Cafe (menu and description at http://www.chicagohs.org/cafe.html) for a cost of $11.50 per person. You must sign up for this luncheon and tour on the Conference pre-registration form.
